IR Energy was commissioned to deliver a complete
solar PV and battery storage solution for a
development of five new build 4-bedroom homes
in Merthyr Tydfil.
The project aimed to meet EPC requirements,
support modern family lifestyles and deliver
long-term savings for the homeowners.


The Challenge
The developer wanted homes that met SAP and EPC standards in line with carbon reduction targets. Additionally, they required solutions that would:
- Lower energy costs for high-usage family homes
- Maintain power during blackouts
- Integrate seamlessly with the roof layout and modern design
- Enhance property value and marketability
System Design & Installation:
- Two houses fitted with 10 Aiko all-black panels
producing 4.2 kW and EcoFlow PowerOcean 5
kWh batteries. - Two houses fitted with 16 panels producing 6
kW and Fox ESS 5 kWh batteries. - One house fitted with 8 panels producing 3.6
kW (limited by Velux window placement) and a
Fox ESS 5 kWh battery.

The Solution
EV Charging:
- Three properties equipped with Zappi and OHME chargers, supporting EV use and energy management.
In-Roof Panels:
- Panels installed flush with the roof for a clean, tile-saving finish, coordinated directly with roofing tilers.
Energy Security & Grid Integration:
- Homes remain powered during outages and export surplus energy via SEG tariffs.
High-Quality Components:
- Premium Aiko panels and EcoFlow/Fox ESS batteries ensure efficiency and reliability.
Renewables Compliance:
- All systems support EPC requirements and carbon reduction targets.
