Green Homes Wales Scheme
The Green Homes Wales Scheme is an initiative introduced by the Welsh Government and administered by the Development Bank of Wales. It is designed to support homeowners across Wales in improving the energy efficiency of their properties. Through a combination of financial assistance and professional guidance, the scheme aims to reduce household energy use, cut utility costs and promote a more sustainable future.

Launched in 2024, the Green Homes Wales Scheme reflects the Welsh Government’s commitment to lowering carbon emissions from residential properties.
Homeowners can apply for interest-free loans ranging from £1,000 to £25,000, with repayment terms of up to 10 years. These funds are intended to cover a variety of energy-saving home improvements. In addition, participants benefit from access to a fully funded Retrofit Coordinator, who provides personalised advice on energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures.
Key Features and Benefits
Interest-Free Loans
- Eligible homeowners can secure loans between £1,000 and £25,000, repayable over a period of up to 10 years.
- For larger-scale projects, extended repayment options may be available.
- A six-month repayment break is included at the start, allowing homeowners to begin seeing energy savings before repayments begin.
Professional Support
Each applicant is supported by a Green Homes Wales Retrofit Coordinator who carries out a comprehensive home assessment. This ensures that all recommended upgrades are tailored to the specific property and its energy requirements.
